I hereby lodge my protest against the efforts to charge Lt. Col. Allen B. West, a battalion commander with the 4th Infantry Division, with assault, stemming from the successful interrogation of a terrorist conspirator, which resulted in prevention of an ambush of American troops. I feel that Lt. Col. West's actions saved the lives of the soldiers under his command and therefore should be commended not punished.
